Document 253796 BANK OF AMERICA: AMADEO PETER GIANNINI Founder of Bank of America and a pioneer of consumer banking. Printed Illustration Mount signed: "Best Wishes to/Hans Foxdahl/A.P. Giannini/S.F. 7/7-48". 7½x10¼ overall, image 5¼x6 (two surfaces). Giannini, the son of an Italian immigrant, established the Bank of Italy in San Francisco in 1904. In 1909, he opened a branch in San Jose, followed by branches in other cities to create the first system of regional banking in the United States. Giannini, who offered the first home mortgages and auto loans, envisioned a large nationwide bank that could offer multiple financial services. In 1930, he consolidated his banks into the Bank of America National Trust and Savings Association, which was the largest bank in the United States, with assets of $5 billion, at the time of his death in 1949.
