Document 54122 ITT: HAROLD GENEEN "The Legendary Conglomerateur". Magazine Cover signed: "Harold S. Geneen", 1p, 7¼x10. "Time" magazine, 1967 September 8. Cover story: "Conglomerates: The New Business Giants". After joining the board of ITT in 1959, former accountant Harold Geneen began an acquisition and diversification program that included purchasing Sheraton Hotels and Continental Baking. By 1970, ITT owned over 400 separate companies in 70 countries. When Geneen stepped down in 1977, ITT's sales had risen from $755 million to nearly $28 billion and earnings increased from $29 million to $562 million. Geneen described his success using micromanagement and attention to detail in his 1985 book, Managing. He died in 1997. Light diagonal creases at bottom margin, 1 touches signature.
