     Document 26568

DEAN ACHESON
Pulitzer Prize-winning Secretary of State.
Original Caricature signed: "Dean Acheson". Black ink drawing on 7x9 cardboard. While Dean Acheson served as Truman's Secretary of State (1949-1953), he formulated the Truman Doctrine that aided Greece and Turkey in fighting communism (1947), helped shape the Marshall Plan, also known as the European Recovery Program (1947-1948), and promoted the formation of NATO (1949). He won the 1970 Pulitzer Prize in History for Present at the Creation: My Years in the State Department. Drawn from life by caricaturist Jack Rosen who, as head of Security in New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, personally escorted important guests to their rooms, sketched them in the elevator, finished the drawing at home and got it autographed. On verso, Rosen has written: "laughed - West Foyer - Waldorf". Mounting remnants on verso, no show through. Lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
