CHARLES de GAULLE
General and President.
Photograph Mount inscribed and signed: "21.5.58/For Mr. George R. Sanders [autograph collector and author]/Cordially/C. de Gaulle" in French. B/w, 10x13¼ overall, image 7x9¼ (two surfaces). Photograph by Harcourt/Paris. De Gaulle (1890-1970) was Chairman of the National Committee of the Free French in London (September 24, 1941 to June 3, 1943) and in Algiers (June 3, 1943 to June 3, 1944). He was Chairman of the Provisional Government of France from June 3, 1944 to January 26, 1946. De Gaulle served as President of France from January 8, 1959 to April 28, 1969. Bottom of mount creased with horizontal fold touching signature. 1½-inch vertical crease beneath photo touches 2 letters. Lightly shaded at perimeter. 1½-inch horizontal crease at upper right border. Photo in fine condition.
