Associates, 141 East 44th Street, New York City, payable to "A. Kleinman" for $150. Countersigned: "Henry H. Saltzstein". Endorsed on verso: "A. Kleinman" and "Aaron Kleinman". Gambino had been appointed boss by Albert Anastasia. In 1957, Vito Genovese approached Gambino about doing away with Anastasia, and on October 25, 1957, Anastasia was slain by two gunmen as he sat in a barbershop. Gambino then made peace with bosses Frank Costello and Lucky Luciano and sought their support to take down Genovese. Together with Meyer Lansky, the four cooked up a narcotics scheme that resulted in the arrest of Genovese, who was then sentenced to 15 years in prison. As Gambino gained power, he successfully avoided the FBI and CIA. Every time they sought to deport him or put him on trial, he would suffer a heart attack or end up in the hospital for some reason. Gambino, known as "The Godfather", died of natural causes in 1976 at the age of 74. Cancellation holes, not at signatures. Show through from bank stamp touches the "Ca".
