Red Foley's Keepsake Album, illustrated with photographs. Foreword by Jud Collins, radio station WSM announcer, begins: "Red Foley's Keepsake Album is the result of a tremendous amount of mail received by this popular entertainer requesting such a book...." WSM was the first commercial FM station in America. In the 1940s, engineers at the Nashville station decided to expand their radio studio into a recording facility, thereby playing an integral role in establishing the city of Nashville as a recording center. A smooth-singing baritone, RED FOLEY (1910-1968) became a Grand Ole Opry headliner in the late 1940s, symbolizing changes then affecting country music. Borrowing from many styles, his top-selling recordings ranged from boogie-woogie to gospel songs. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1967, a year before his death. GRADY MARTIN was a studio musician for Columbia Records. The guitarist backed such artists as Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Joan Baez and Marty Robbins. He and BOB MOORE also contributed musically to Robbins' songs. Martin later toured with Willie Nelson. Martin, guitarist JIMMY SELPH and steel drummer BUD ISAACS frequently recorded with Red Foley. MOON MULLICAN was a pianist and singer with Western Swing bands. Cover lightly creased, soiled and stained. Inside pages lightly water stained at bottom margin. Overall, fine condition.
