LOUIS F. SWIFT. DS: "L.F. Swift", 1p, 8½x5¼. No
place, 1912 June 25. Irving National Exchange Bank Proxy for a
stockholder's meeting. Also signed: "S.H. Taylor". Swift,
the eldest son of meatpacking pioneer Gustavus Swift, helped his
father incorporate Swift & Co. in Chicago in 1885. Louis, who served as the
firm's Treasurer (1885-1895), Vice President (1895), President (1903-1931)
and Chairman of the Board, is credited with developing various uses for the
company's byproducts and promoting new dairy and poultry lines. Horizontal fold
touches the upper loops of the "L", "F", "S" and "t" of Swift's signature and
the "l" in Taylor. Ink notes (unknown hand) at upper margin, slightly stained at
lower margin. Irregular upper edge, with ¾-inch paper loss. Overall, fine
condition.
