Document 25120
FRITZ ZWICKY. Signature: "Fritz Zwicky", 5½x3¼ card. Fritz
Zwicky (1898-1974) was an eccentric Swiss-American astronomer who was Professor
of Astronomy at Caltech. He studied extragalactic supernovae and the
distribution of galaxies in Coma Berenices. Zwicky was the first to consider
gravitational lensing by extragalactic objects.
Zwicky had a difficult personality and was known to accost unfamiliar
students in the astronomy building at Caltech with the interrogation "Who the
hell are you?". Pinhead- size stain above signature. Notes on verso (unknown
hand, no show through). Fine condition.
