EDWARD G. ROBINSON
Incredibly, never nominated for an Academy Award!
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/John L. Bradford-/All good wishes-/Edward G. Robinson". Sepia, 8x10. At the March 27, 1973 Academy Awards ceremony, an Honorary Award was posthumously awarded to Robinson, who had never been nominated for an Oscar. He had died of cancer on January 26th, a week after he had learned of the Award. His widow accepted the statuette from Charlton Heston, reading an acknowledgment Robinson had written. In part: "It couldn't have come at a better time in a man's life. Had it come earlier, it would have aroused deep feelings in me, still not so deep as now...." Among Robinson's many memorable parts were title roles in Little Caesar, The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse, Brother Orchid, Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet and A Dispatch from Reuters. Glue stains on verso (no show through). Lightly creased at lower left blank corner, else fine condition.
