Document 175107 PIERRE KOENIG French General in North Africa. Two signatures: "P. Koenig", each 1½x1¼. With 1954 letter in French from Koenig sending the autographs. Also a printed Koenig biography, in French, and a short 1970 news story announcing Koenig's death. All five items have been mounted on a sheet approximately 7x9½ in size. Koenig fought in Norway and France in 1939 and early 1940. In June 1940, he joined De Gaulle's Free French Forces. Koenig successfully defended Bir-Hakeim in Libya against Rommel in 1942 and headed the French Forces of the Interior after D-Day, June 6, 1944. When Paris was liberated, General Koenig became the city's Military Governor. First signature is touched by creases, else fine. Second signature fine. Other items creased from being pasted.
