Document 171535 GEORGE M. COHAN: "YANKEE DOODLE DANDY" Born in 1878 on the third of July! Signature: "Yankee Doodlefully/Geo. M. Cohan", 1p, 3½x2¾. The song "Yankee Doodle Boy" (also known as "Yankee Doodle Dandy") was written by George M. Cohan for his 1904 Broadway show, Little Johnny Jones. His patriotic songs include "You're a Grand Old Flag" (from George Washington, Jr., 1906) and "Over There" (1917), for which he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Roosevelt in 1942, the year of his death.
