BENJAMIN R. HAYDON. ALS: "B.R. Haydon", 1p, 3¾x4½.
London, 1814 November 19. Recipient's name illegible. In full:
"I render you dear Willie's autograph from a note 1812 - I can cut off no
more - pray say so." English historical painter and writer Benjamin Robert
Haydon (1786-1846) was admired by the literary greats of his day, including
Keats and Wordsworth, who sat for him for portraits. Haydon, whose works include
Christ's Entry into Jerusalem (1820), Wellington at Waterloo
(1839) and Banishment of Aristides (1846), was also a popular teacher,
lecturer and writer. Lightly soiled. Remnants at 2 corners of verso lightly show
through. Overall, fine condition.
