First Lady, 1901-1909.
Signature: "Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt", 5x1. Theodore Roosevelt and Edith Kermit Carow were childhood friends on East 20th Street in Manhattan. After Roosevelt's wife, Alice, died in 1884 at the age of 22, Theodore and Edith renewed their friendship and were wed in 1886. They had five children: Theodore, Jr., Kermit, Ethel, Archibald and Quentin. Typed at lower right: "Mrs Theodore Roosevelt./Wife of former President Roosevelt", so this was signed between March 1909, when TR left office, and Edith's death in 1948. Closely cut. Mounting strip at right edge of verso lightly shows through to typed text. Overall, fine condition.
