Document 259159 HAL ROACH, JR., ALAN MOWBRAY and WILLIAM COLLIER, SR. The 20-year-old son of the pioneer moviemaker applies for membership in The Masquers. Partly Printed DS: "Hal Roach Jr.", "Alan Mowbray" and "William Collier Sr.", 1p, 7¼x5½. Hollywood, 1938 June 23. Hal Roach Jr.'s "Application for Membership" in The Masquers, Hollywood's oldest social and fraternal club, founded in May 1925. He has filled in his name, address ("Hal Roach Studios Culver City"), Phone ("Parkway 1151") and Occupation ("Associate Producer"). Roach's nomination was proposed by Mowbray and seconded by Collier. HAL ROACH, JR. (1918-1972) and his father co-directed his first film, One Million B.C. in 1940 when he was 19. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Score and Best Visual Effects. Prairie Chickens (1943) was the first film Hal Roach, Jr. directed alone. Character actor ALAN MOWBRAY (1896-1969) starred as the Devil in The Devil with Hitler, produced by Hal Roach, Jr. in 1942. Character actor WILLIAM COLLIER SR. (1864-1944) appeared on the London and New York stage from the 1880s, first appearing on film with Mack Sennett in 1915. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper blank margin. Pencil and ink notes (unknown hand) at blank margins. Tape stain at upper left margin, pinhead-size stain at lower margin. Overall, fine condition.
