CALVIN COOLIDGE
Four days after being elected President, Coolidge sends thanks for support.
TLS: "Calvin Coolidge" as President, 1p, 7x9. The White House, Washington, 1924 November 8. To General N.E. Turgeon, Buffalo Athletic Club, Buffalo, N.Y. In full: "I know that I have your best wishes as I have had your hearty and effective support, but it is good, nevertheless, to receive a word from you. I am most grateful to you for this message." Calvin Coolidge, who succeeded to the Presidency upon the death of President Harding, was elected President for a full four-year term fifteen months later, on November 4, 1924. This letter was written to a supporter four days after he defeated Democrat John W. Davis by 15.7 million to 8.4 million popular votes, 382-136 electoral votes and 35-12 states. Progressive Party candidate Robert LaFollette received 4.8 million popular votes and Wisconsin's 13 electoral votes. Very lightly soiled at blank right edge, lightly creased, stray ink mark above letterhead, else in fine condition.
