JULIUS HOFFMAN. Inscribed signature: "For Mr. Doug Voegler/with the best wishes of/Julius Hoffman", 8½x3½. 3 tape stains, touching 2 words of inscription and the "offm" of signature, else fine. With original envelope from United States District Court/Chicago 60604/Chambers of Julius J. Hoffman. Lightly creased, else fine. On September 24, 1969, seven Vietnam War protest leaders charged with conspiring to start a riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention were put on trial. The "Chicago Seven" were tried in the courtroom of 74-year-old U.S. District Judge Julius Hoffman. The case went to the jury in February and all seven were acquitted. Two items.
