[LYNDON B. JOHNSON] PRESIDENTIAL PEN. Comprises: (1) Eversharp Ballpoint
Pen, unsigned, 5½. Black barrel, silver cap, "THE WHITE HOUSE", "Lyndon
B. Johnson" and the Presidential seal imprinted on barrel. Minor surface
scratches (not evident head on). Fine condition. In original box, 6x2x¾. White
cover imprinted with the Presidential Seal and LBJ's signature, gold foil lower
portion. Cover lightly creased and soiled. Gold foil portion creased, worn at
lower edge and on one side. With printed note: "One of the pens used by
the President, September 29, 1965, in signing S. 1483, An Act to provide for the
establishment of the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities to
promote progress and scholarship in the humanities and the arts in the United
States, and for other purposes." Lightly creased, else fine. (2) TLS:
"Frank E. Moss" as U.S. Senator, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, 1966
January 27. To Sp-5 William Van Buskirk, APO San Francisco. In part:
"I am forwarding to you one of the pens presented to me which President
Johnson used to sign into law the bill establishing the National Foundation on
the Arts and the Humanities." Creased. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso
lightly shows through at lower margin. Overall, fine condition. FRANK E.
"TED" MOSS was Utah's U.S. Senator from 1959-1977. The National Endowment
for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities were created by this
Act. Three items.
