LOU HENRY HOOVER. Signature: "Lou Henry
Hoover", 3x1½ card. Lou Henry received a B.A. degree from Stanford
University in 1898. She met her future husband, whom she married in 1899, at
Stanford. They had two sons: Herbert Clark Hoover, Jr. (1903-1969) and Allan
Henry Hoover (1907-1993). Mrs. Hoover served as President of the Girl Scouts of
America and was the only female officer of the National American Athletic
Foundation in 1922. After leaving the White House in 1933, the Hoovers moved to
Palo Alto, California, near the Stanford University campus. Mrs. Hoover
continued to be active in the Girl Scouts, the Community Chest, League of Women
Voters and the YMCA. On January 7, 1944, after attending a concert in New York
City, Mrs. Hoover suffered a heart attack and died suddenly at age 68 in the
Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Fine condition.
