DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER. TLS: "Ike", 1p,
7¼x10¼. (New York), 1950 November 8. To his brother, Arthur. In full:
"When you receive this note I will be in Texas, in the middle of another
alumni tour. But Mamie and I do want to send our greetings for your birthday and
wish for you all good things in the years ahead. Love to all." Lightly
creased. 2 stray ink marks at blank area. Fine condition. With typed,
stamped envelope addressed to Arthur Eisenhower, Commerce Trust Company, Kansas
City, Missouri. Return address: Room 202, 537 West 116th Street, New York, the
future President's office at Columbia University. Lightly creased, soiled and
stained. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER served as President of Columbia from
1948-1953. Seven weeks after he wrote this letter, Eisenhower was granted an
indefinite leave of absence from Columbia to serve as Commander of NATO forces
in Europe. ARTHUR was the first of seven sons born to David and Elizabeth
Eisenhower. Four years older than Dwight, he celebrated his 64th birthday on
November 11, 1950. Two items.
