DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER. TLS: "Dwight
D. Eisenhower", 1p, 7x9¾. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1965 July 1. To
James T. Maxcy, Chairman, History Department, The Pilgrim School, First
Congregational Church, Los Angeles. In full: "Thank you for your
recent letter telling me of the program in your history department. I am pleased
to know that you are emphasizing appreciation for our American system of
government." The day Eisenhower wrote this letter, he and his wife Mamie
were celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary. Only John and Abigail Adams
(54 years) and John Quincy and Louisa Adams (50 years) had been married longer
at the time. At his death in 1969, Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower had been married
for 52 years. Lightly soiled and creased at blank margins, else fine
condition.
