DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER and HERBERT BROWNELL, JR. Partly Printed DS: "Dwight D. Eisenhower" as
President and "Herbert Brownell, Jr." as Attorney
General, 1p, 19x15¼. Washington, 1953 October 13. In full:
"Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the Integrity,
Ability and Diligence of Donald A. Fraser of Connecticut I do appoint him
Marshal of the United States in and for the District of Connecticut and do
authorize and empower him to execute and fulfil the duties of that Office
according to the Constitution and Laws of the said United States, and to Have
and to Hold the said Office, with all the powers, privileges and emoluments to
the same of right appertaining unto Him, the Said Donald A. Fraser until the end
of the next session of the Senate of the United States and no longer; subject to
the provisions of law." Signed by President EISENHOWER just seven
months into his first term. BROWNELL served as Attorney General from
1953-1958. On June 22, 1870, Congress created the Department of Justice in which
U.S. attorneys and U.S. Marshals serve and report to the U.S. Attorney General,
who presides over the Department. 2-inch gold paper seal affixed at left.
Mounted on heavy board of the same size. Slightly worn at corners. Overall, fine
condition.
