Document 255898
RONALD REAGAN. Typed Quotation signed:
"Ronald Reagan", ½p, 8½x11. In full: "Nations do not mistrust
each other because they are armed; they are armed because they mistrust each
other. U.N. General Assembly, New York, September 22, 1986." In this speech,
President Reagan voiced a new hope for arms control. He also criticized the
Soviet Union for arresting Nicholas Daniloff, Moscow correspondent for the
"Washington Post", UPI and "U.S. News and World Report". Daniloff was arrested
by Soviet authorities on August 30th in retaliation for the arrest in New York
of Gennadiy Zakharov, who was found guilty of espionage. Daniloff was released a
week after Reagan's speech, on September 29, 1986, in exchange for Zakharov, and
charges against him were dropped as a result of a Soviet-American agreement.
Lightly creased. Fine condition.
