     Document 206468

NEWTON N. MINOW. Photograph signed: "Newton N. Minow". B/w, 10x8. Newton Minow was Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission under President Kennedy. The S.S. Minnow, the tourist ship that ran aground in TV's Gilligan's Island (1964-1967), was named after Minow who coined the description of television as a "vast wasteland" in a 1961 speech. Minow had urged network executives to become more involved in the creative content of their shows which annoyed Gilligan creator Sherwood Schwartz. Fine condition.
