Document 154703 FRANCES F. CLEVELAND The youngest First Lady. Signature: "Frances Folsom Cleveland/November 2, 1886" as First Lady, 4½x2¾ card. Grover Cleveland, the bachelor Governor of New York, was elected President of the United States on November 4, 1884. On June 2, 1886, the 49-year-old President married his 21-year-old ward, Frances Folsom, the daughter of his deceased law partner, in the White House. They were married until the former President died on June 24, 1908, 22 days after their 22nd wedding anniversary. They had three daughters and two sons. Their youngest son, Francis, died in 1995 at 92. On February 10, 1913, the 48-year-old widow married 32-year-old Princeton University Professor of Archaeology Thomas Jex Preston, Jr. Frances, who died in 1947, was the first President's widow to remarry; Jacqueline Kennedy was the second.
