KERMIT ROOSEVELT
President's son who fought for the British and the U.S. in both World Wars.
Signature: "Kermit Roosevelt", 4½x¾. Identification typed beneath signature: "Kermit Roosevelt./Son of Former President, Theodore Roosevelt." Kermit Roosevelt (1889-1943) was the third child and second son of Theodore Roosevelt. Educated at Groton and Harvard, Kermit was an engineer in Brazil (1910-1913) and a banker in Argentina and Chile (1913-1915). During this time, he accompanied his father on an expedition to the Amazon. During WWI, he served in the British Army from 1915-1917 and was awarded the Military Cross, War Cross and the Order of Danilo (Montenegro). He was commanding officer in the First U.S. Division on the Western Front (1917-1919). In WWII, Kermit Roosevelt was a Major in the British Army (1939-1941) and served in the U.S. Army (1942-1943). He died on active service in Alaska on June 4, 1943. Mounting remnant on verso (light show through). Closely cut to top of signature. Fine condition.
