Document 31981 FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT and HENRY MORGENTHAU, JR. Signed defense stamps picturing an anti-aircraft gun. Sheet of Stamps signed: "Franklin D. Roosevelt" as President and "Henry Morgenthau Jr." as Secretary of the Treasury. A sheet of 63 attached stamps (slight separation at some perforations, tape repairs on verso keep others attached), with three additional sections which are separated from the sheet for a total of 90 stamps. Signed on the left selvage. Each 2-cent stamp pictures a 90 millimeter anti-aircraft gun with the words "Army and Navy" above and "For Defense" below. The stamp is one of three National Defense stamps issued by the United States in 1940, a year before Pearl Harbor. MORGENTHAU was FDR's Secretary of the Treasury from 1934-1945. Accompanied by unsigned photograph which is a reproduction of a signed photograph of Roosevelt examining stamps in his collection. B/w with rose hue, 4¾x3½ overall, image 3½x2½ (one surface).
