GERALD R. FORD and HENRY A. KISSINGER
At a National Security Council Meeting, June 1976 re: evacuating Americans in Beirut.
Photograph signed: "Gerald Ford" and "Henry A. Kissinger". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 10x6½ (one surface). This photograph was taken at a National Security Council meeting with President Ford on June 17, 1976. The meeting was held in the Cabinet Room of the White House. In the photo CIA Director GEORGE BUSH discusses the evacuation of Americans from Beirut. Also in attendance (some who are featured in the photo) were L. Dean Brown, Special Emissary to Lebanon; Brent Scowcroft, Assistant for National Security Affairs; Secretary of State HENRY KISSINGER; Deputy Defense Secretary William Clements; General George S. Brown, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Dick Cheney, White House Chief of Staff. At the time of this photo, a civil war was taking place in Lebanon. The day before this photo, American Francis E. Meloy, Jr. was assassinated on his way to present his credentials as U.S. Ambassador to the Lebanese President. Also killed was U.S. Counselor for Economic Affairs, Robert O. Waring. ON JUNE 20, 1976 THE U.S. EMBASSY IN BEIRUT WAS EVACUATED. Fine condition.
