On his personal embossed stationery. Fine condition. With original stamped, postmarked 5¼x3¾ embossed envelope addressed by Cleveland to: "C.S. Haskell/Principal of Grammar School No. 2/46th St. & Third Avenue/Brooklyn/N.Y." Lightly creased. Fine condition. C.S. HASKELL was Principal of Public School 2 in Brooklyn, New York, from 1899-1904. Grover Cleveland (1837-1908), son of a Yale graduate, attended the Fayetteville, New York Academy from 1848-1849. He attended the Liberal Institute from 1850-1851 and returned to the Fayetteville Academy from 1852-1853. Though he had hoped to progress through college, Cleveland's formal education ended when his father died in 1853. He became a clerk and assistant teacher in the New York Institution for the Blind in New York City; his older brother William was a teacher there. In 1870, Cleveland was appointed to the first Board of Managers for the Buffalo Normal School (now Buffalo State College). He served as Sheriff of Erie County (1871-1873), Mayor of Buffalo (1882), Governor of New York (1883-1885) and President of the United States (1885-1889, 1893-1897). After Cleveland's death in 1908, a personal friend, former Justice Morgan J. O'Brien told "The New York Times", in part: "Most of his time was spent in promoting education and philanthropy -- work which entailed sacrifices of his time and personal convenience, without fee or hope of reward beyond the desire to do that which was useful and good."
