The cover of "Time" magazine, August 25, 1980, headlined: "Running Tough". At the Democratic National Convention held at Madison Square Garden, August 11-14, 1980, President Carter was renominated on the first ballot after a challenge by Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy. With 1,666 delegate votes needed to be nominated, Carter won the nomination 2,123 to 1,150½ with 40½ votes split among 16 candidates. He lost the November 4, 1980 election in a landslide to Ronald Reagan. Address label affixed in bottom center. Worn left edge, which also has pinhead-size hole to right of center staple. ½-inch separations at bottom and top of mid-vertical fold and where upper staple was removed.
