Nobel laureates who discovered how poliomyelitis viruses grow.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "John F. Enders/Aug. 5, 1982.", "Frederick C. Robbins/July 26, 1982" and "T H Weller/July 13, 1982", 6½x3½. First Day Cover "Honoring Those Who Helped Fight Polio", 3-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Washington, D.C., January 15, 1957, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. From the December 10, 1954, presentation speech of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine: "Dr. John Enders, Dr. Frederick Robbins, Dr. Thomas Weller. Karolinska Institutet has decided to award you jointly the Nobel Prize for your discovery of the capacity of the poliomyelitis virus to grow in test-tube cultures of various tissues. Your observations have found immediate practical application on vitally important medical problems, and it has made accessible new fields in the realm of theoretical virus research." A collector has typed the names of the three doctors above their signatures and notes about the Nobel Prize on verso. Fine condition.
