LADY BIRD JOHNSON. Philatelic Envelope
signed: "Lady Bird Johnson", 6½x3½. First Day Cover bearing 5-cent "Plant
for a more Beautiful America" stamp, postmarked Washington, DC, October 5,
1966, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. In 1984, Congress passed an act authorizing
President Reagan "to present, on behalf of the Congress, to Lady Bird Johnson a
gold medal of appropriate design, in recognition of her humanitarian efforts and
outstanding contributions to the improvement and beautification of America".
Mrs. Johnson, who celebrated her 90th birthday last December 22nd, is pictured
and quoted ("Beauty cannot be set aside for vacation or special occasions") on
this envelope, which was issued while she was First Lady. Slightly creased.
Light stain from removal of address label at lower margin. Fine condition.
