EDITH K. ROOSEVELT. Envelope franked: "Free/Edith K. Roosevelt", 6¼x3½. Postmarked Oyster Bay, N.Y., January 15, 1939. Addressed by Mrs. Roosevelt to: "Mr Edward Weinarht/120 East 21st St/New York City". Back flap bears printed return address: "Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, Senior/Sagamore Hill/Oyster Bay, New York". Postmarked on verso: Madison Sq. Sta., N.Y., January 16, 1939. Theodore Roosevelt was born in 1858 at 28 East 20th Street, just two blocks from Weinarht's residence. Roosevelt died on January 6, 1919. On what would have been his 61st birthday, October 27, 1919, his widow, Edith K. Roosevelt, was granted the franking privilege by a special act of Congress. Lightly creased. Soiled. Postal markings touch signature. "Not Found" stamp at lower left, pencil erasures at lower margin. Overall, fine condition.
