BESS W. TRUMAN. TLS: "Bess W. Truman",
1p, 6x8¼. Independence, Missouri, 1975 February 5. On her personal
embossed stationery to Mr. Jakie Lee Pruett, Clute, Texas. In part:
"...thank you so much for your thoughtfulness in sending me the Agatha
Christie bookplate, which I am glad to have. She is one of the best!...." Mrs.
Truman celebrated her 90th birthday eight days after writing this letter,
becoming the first and only First Lady (until Lady Bird Johnson in 2002) to
reach that age. She died in 1982 at the age of 97. Her love of Agatha Christie's
mysteries was passed on to her daughter, Margaret, a best-selling author of
crime novels. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
