FRANCES FOLSOM CLEVELAND. Full signature:
"Frances Folsom Cleveland/16 Aug. 1887" as First Lady, 4¼x3¼ card.
On June 2, 1886, 49-year-old bachelor President Grover Cleveland married his
ward, 21-year-old Frances Folsom, the daughter of his deceased law partner.
After Cleveland lost the presidency to Benjamin Harrison, Mrs. Cleveland
told the new First Lady, Caroline Scott Harrison, on Inauguration Day, March 4,
1889: "...we are coming back just four years from today". And they did. Full
signatures of Mrs. Cleveland are scarce and desirable. Light rectangular
embossing above signature. Glue stains on verso (no show through). Fine
condition.
