ANDREW JACKSON and JOHN FORSYTH. Partly
Printed DS: "Andrew Jackson" as President and "John
Forsyth" as Secretary of State, 1p, 10½x14¼. On vellum. Ship's papers
issued from Alexandria, D.C., 1834 November 13, signed earlier by Jackson
and Forsyth. Countersigned by the Collector of the District of Columbia,
District of Alexandria. In part: "Suffer the Ship Metamora of
Alexandria, George Fletcher master or commander of the burthen of Three Hundred
sixty one and 40/95ths tons or thereabouts mounted with no guns navigated with
sixteen men. To Pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandize without
any hinderance seisure or molestation...." FORSYTH, who was appointed
during JACKSON's second term (June 1834), served as Secretary of State
through the administration of Martin Van Buren. Scalloped upper edge. Lightly
creased and rippled. Folds, vertical fold through the "d" in Andrew and the "Jo"
of John. Stray ink marks. 2¼-inch diameter stain at lower left from seal (not
present).
