Document 84605
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER. TLS: "Ike", 1p,
7x10¼. Palm Desert, Calif., 1961 March 4. To The Honorable Lewis Strauss,
Washington, D.C. In full: "I am sorry I missed the television panel
program in which you took part. In addition, because we do not receive New York
newspapers, I also missed reading any reference to it, or possible coverage. As
always, I would say that your performance was excellent. That was the only
answer -- and the best one -- to Smith's query. My lumbago is gone. The golf
course is wonderful!" HOWARD K. SMITH was a regular panelist on
Issues and Answers, ABC's Sunday news interview show. President
EISENHOWER had left office just six weeks earlier. STRAUSS served
as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (1953-1958) and Eisenhower's
Secretary of Commerce (1958-1959) and was a pallbearer at Ike's funeral in 1969.
Slightly creased. Fine condition.
