Document 32392
FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. TLS: "Franklin D. Roosevelt" as Assistant
Secretary of the Navy, 1p, 8x10½. Navy Department, Washington, 1920 July
30. To Joseph Wertheimer, Esq., St. Louis, Mo. In full: "It was
awfully good of you to write me, and I greatly appreciate the thought of my old
friends and classmates." At the Democratic National Convention held in San
Francisco, June 28-July 6, 1920, Roosevelt, Assistant Secretary of the Navy
since 1913, was nominated for Vice President; James Cox was the Democratic
presidential candidate. Wertheimer was most probably a classmate of FDR at
Groton, Harvard or Columbia Law School who wrote a congratulatory letter to
Roosevelt after the nomination. Slightly creased. Soiled and stained at lower
horizontal fold and at upper and lower blank margins. Overall, fine condition.
