FILLMORE had been nominated as General Zachary Taylor's running mate for
Vice President at the Whig Party Convention (held in Philadelphia, June 7-9,
1848). The Whig ticket defeated Democrats Cass and Butler on November 7, 1848.
On February 20, 1849, Fillmore resigned as Comptroller after serving just 14
months in that office. Thirteen days later, he was sworn in as Vice President.
When President Taylor died on July 9, 1850, Fillmore became President. 4
cancellation holes touch Fillmore's signature. Lightly creased, pinhead-size
paper burn at blank area between lines of text. Vertical fold touches the "a" in
Jeremiah. Lightly worn edges. Overall, fine condition.
