FRIZ FRELENG. Original Pencil Drawing signed:
"Friz/Freleng," 10x6¾ card. Isadore "Friz" Freleng (1905-1995) drew
that "wascal wabbit" Bugs Bunny in this sketch but Bugs was originally
created by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway for Porky's Hare Hunt in 1938. Bugs
soon appeared in A Wild Hare (1940) and countless cartoons of his own.
Freleng had begun his film career as an animator in 1924 before joining Walt
Disney's operations during 1927. He then worked on Krazy Kat cartoons at
Winkler Picture Corporation in New York for three years. Freleng later became
a creator and director of cartoons with Warner Brothers for the creative
team of the Merrie Melodies and Looney Tune cartoons. While
supervising his hand-picked team of animators and writers at Warners, Feleng
directed Knighty Knight Bugs (1958 which won an Academy Award). The film
credits of Freleng and Bugs include Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears
(1944), Bugs and Thugs (1954), Rabbitson Crusoe (1956) and Show
Biz Bugs (1957). Freleng also directed the Academy Award winners
Tweety Pie (1947), Speedy Gonzales (1955) and Birds
Anonymous (1957). He went on to establish DePatie-Freleng Enterprises,
Incorporated, where he created and produced the Pink Panther. Fine
