Document 81137
ROWLAND HILL. Portion of Third Person ALS: "Lord Hill",
3x3. Irregularly cut, mounted to an irregular larger sheet with articles
affixed. No place, 1831 January 17. In full: "Lord Hill on the subject
of a Kings Plate for Shrewsbury Races". Shaded edges. Rowland Hill
(1772-1842), created 1st Viscount Hill in 1842, distinguished himself in the
Peninsular campaign at Arroyomolinos de Montánchez (1811) and Almaraz (1812) and
at Waterloo in 1815. At the time he wrote this, Hill was Commander in Chief in
England (1828-1842). Overall, fine condition.
