Document 85574
JOHN W. KERN. AQS: "Very Truly and Elusively Yours/Jno W.
Kern" at the right of lower margin of 10½x14 brown Harris &
Ewing/Washington D.C. photo mat (photo not present). At the left, in full:
"It is better to have loved and lost/than never to have lost at all".
John W. Kern ran for Governor of Indiana in 1900 and 1904 and for Vice President
(on the William Jennings Bryan ticket) in 1908 and lost all three elections.
While he won election to the U.S. Senate in 1910, he lost his bid for reelection
in 1916. A very appropriate quote. Light wear at edges. Slightly stained.
Overall, fine condition.
