WILLIAM G. McADOO
Woodrow Wilson's son-in-law.
Signature: "W.G. McAdoo/Los Angeles, Cal./1929",
4½x2½ card. On May 7, 1914, in the White House, President Wilson's
youngest daughter, Eleanor Randolph Wilson (1889-1967) married William Gibbs
McAdoo (1863-1941), her father's Secretary of the Treasury (1913-1918). McAdoo led 23 Democrats nominated for President at the 1920
Democratic National Convention with 266 first ballot votes; 729 of the 1094 cast
were necessary for the nomination. His supporters stuck with him but as the
ballots progressed and other candidates dropped out, James M. Cox emerged as the
presidential nominee on the 44th ballot, garnering 732½ votes. McAdoo was second
with 267. He later served as Senator from California (1933-1939). Mounting glue
