     Document 55240

LOU H. HOOVER
First Lady, 1929-1933.
Signature: "Lou Henry Hoover", 3½x2 card. Imprinted: "Stanford University, California". Lou Henry received a B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1898. That is where she met her future husband, whom she married in 1899. Mrs. Hoover served as President of the Girl Scouts of America and was the only female officer of the National American Athletic Foundation in 1922. After leaving the White House in 1933, the Hoovers moved to Palo Alto, California, near the Stanford University campus. Mrs. Hoover continued to be active in the Girl Scouts, the Community Chest, League of Women Voters and the YMCA. On January 7, 1944, after attending a concert in New York City, Mrs. Hoover suffered a heart attack and died suddenly at age 68 in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Mounting remnants and pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Light glue stain at left margin just touches "L" in Lou. Fine condition.
