Document 257263 LUCRETIA R. GARFIELD Signed six years after her husband's assassination. Signature: "Lucretia R. Garfield/Cleveland O./Dec. 3d 1887", 4½x3½ card. On November 11, 1858, 26-year-old Lucretia Rudolph married 26-year-old James Garfield in Hiram, Ohio. They had five sons and two daughters. Mrs. Garfield survived her assassinated husband by more than 36 years. An act signed March 31, 1882 by President Arthur directed the Secretary of the Interior to place the names of Mrs. Garfield and the widows of Presidents Tyler and Polk "on the pension roll and pay each of them a pension during their respective natural lives at a rate of $5,000 a year from and after the 19th day of September 1881", the day President Garfield died. On July 27, 1882, Congress passed an act awarding Mrs. Garfield an additional lump sum of $50,000. SEE IF DOCUMENT 257263 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
