Document 84529 MAMIE EISENHOWER "My best beau gave a surprise dinner party for me". TLS: "Mamie Eisenhower", 1p, 6½x9. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1964 November 20. The former First Lady writes to Alice Strauss, wife of her husband's Secretary of Commerce. In full: "How sweet of you and Lewis to send me the thoughtful birthday message. I do appreciate your kindness. The many remembrances - together with the lovely Georgia sunshine and the fact that my best beau gave a surprise dinner party for me - all made this a most wonderful anniversary." In a handwritten postscript signed: "M", Mrs. Eisenhower adds: "Been a couple of days in Walter Reed for 'checks'. Glad to say Ike's back is better - still a few sore spots".
