Document 30546 BENJAMIN HARRISON Notarization relating to shares of stock attested to by the 25-year-old future President. Early ADS: "Benjamin Harrison/Notary Public", three lines at conclusion of Manuscript DS of Ambrose F. Shortridge, defendant in the case of Gustavus H. Voss v. Ambrose F. Shortridge, 2p, 7¾x12½, front and verso. Marion County, Indiana, 1858 November 18. The 25-year-old Notary Public writes, in full: "Subscribed & sworn to before me a Notary Public for Marion County and State of Indiana this 18th November 1858." Shortridge answers two questions relating to the existence of a bylaw and the issuance of a stock certificate, and, gives his reply to a third question, in full: "To 3d Question. I had no knowledge, information or suspicion even, of the existence of plaintiffs mortgage, nor of his having or claiming any interest or lien upon said Stock when I bought the same of Mathis. I paid Mathis about eight hundred dollars and I think a little more, for the 20 Shares of Stock transferred to me. I bought the Stock on the 24th November 1853 and the consideration passed on the same day-The exact amount the Stock cost me was $798.55."
