Rare personally free franked envelope.
Envelope franked: "Gerald R. Ford", 8x4. Printed 5x3¼ address label affixed. Printed in upper left of label: "Office of/GERALD R. FORD/Rancho Mirage, California 92270"; addressed by typewriter to: "Mr. Edward Springer/16702 Nearview Drive/Canyon Country, CA 91351". Postmarked: "Rancho Mirage, CA, June 7, 1985". The Former Presidents Act of 1958 formalized the granting of the franking privilege to former Presidents and their widows. Presidents since Herbert Hoover who were granted the franking privilege used metered franks or printed franks. Personally franked envelopes of those Presidents are exceedingly rare. Fine condition.
