Document 13384 GROVER CLEVELAND The former President accepts "honorable membership" in the Young Democrat organization. ALS: "Grover Cleveland", 1p, 4½x6¾. Princeton, 1902 October 16. To Bernard Seymour Deutsch Esq, President. In full: "I have received your letter informing me of my election to honorable membership in the Young Mens Democracy of the 24th Assembly District. I regard this action of the organization as an honor; and I accept it with grateful appreciation." Shaded in margins, just touching signature. Light ink transference. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by original stamped envelope addressed by Cleveland to: "Bernard Seymour Deutsch Esq/36 Sutton Place/New York". Lightly soiled. Torn at top edge and back flap from opening. In 1932, in an apparent deal, Tammany Hall, the New York City Democratic machine, and the New York County Republican machine, nominated the same candidates: Samuel H. Hofstadter, a Republican State Senator and Aron Steuer, a Tammany protegé, for vacancies on the New York Supreme Court. The Association of the Bar of the City of New York pronounced both men unfit and proposed that George W. Alger and BERNARD SEYMOUR DEUTSCH (1884-1935) run as independents. Despite this, Hofstadter and Steuer were elected. Two items. SEE IF DOCUMENT 13384 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
