Document 27462 HARRY S TRUMAN The former President sends his autograph. Printed TNS: "Harry S Truman", 6x4 card. No place, no date. In full: "I am pleased to comply with your request for an autograph." Truman served as 33rd U.S. President from 1945-1953. The 22nd Amendment was proposed by Congress in 1947 and became part of the Constitution in 1951. It prohibited a person from being elected President more than twice or, if a President completed more than two years of another person's term, more than once. Truman had completed the remaining three years 283 days of FDR's term and was elected to a full four-year term in 1948. The amendment states that it "shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress". Truman, therefore, could have sought reelection in 1952 but he declined to be a candidate. He sent these cards in response to autograph requests after he left office. Stray ink marks at upper left blank corner. Fine condition. SEE IF DOCUMENT 27462 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
