HERBERT HOOVER
Republican President thanks Democratic Senator for his recommendation of a ministerial appointment.
TLS: "Herbert Hoover" as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1932 January 23. To U.S. Senator Walter F. George. In full: "I have received your letter of January 22, in which you submit the name of Honorable Norval Richardson for consideration in connection with an appointment to one of the ministerial posts in Europe. Thank you for writing to me." Article II Section 2 of the Constitution gives the President the power to "appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls". WALTER F. GEORGE served as Democratic Senator from Georgia from 1922-1957. When Al Smith received the presidential nomination on the first ballot at the 1928 Democratic National Convention, Senator George finished second in the voting. Folds with creases, light horizontal fold touches bottom of signature. Fine condition.
